Anything past the list of "Allowed elements" gets dumped into a box labeled "custom code," hidden from the tool that is supposed to help you design. And we get it, this is done to make tings simpler to use. But often even simple elements are missing like tables or SVG's.
Every HTML element, not a curated subset
We did not pick a set of "supported" elements and call it a design system. We did not build abstractions to make things "easier" that quietly became limits. Splitleaf only has one limit: the limit of HTML, CSS, and JavaScript itself.
Drag and drop any modern HTML element. Splitleaf renders it, understands it, and publishes it as clean code.
- Build a real table by dragging rows and columns, the way you already do in other software.
- Place an SVG directly in the canvas and edit its styling like any other element.
- Use modals, popovers, and anchor positioning. These are new browser features, and we support them today. We will keep adding new elements and CSS properties as browsers adopt them.
You will still hit edges. Splitleaf cannot create every HTML element or expose every CSS property in the visual panel. But there is a difference between "not exposed" and "not possible." If the agent can place an element, you can see it, click it, edit its text, and adjust most of its styling. Whatever the visual panel cannot reach, the agent can, or you can open the code view and write it yourself.
Your agent works on your files, not someone's database
Most online design tools store your site in a proprietary database and run it through a closed code engine. That is a problem for AI agents, because language models are not trained on proprietary databases. They are trained on files: HTML, CSS, JavaScript, folder structures.
Every time an agent has to translate its own code into a tool's internal format, something gets lost. The tool shows a diff you did not ask for. It writes code you cannot see. It "syncs" instead of saving.
In Splitleaf, the agent edits the same files you edit, in the same folder structure. There is no translation step. No hidden sync. No black box between what the agent writes and what you see on the canvas.
This is why our favorite demo is simple: upload a poster you like, hand it to the agent, and ask it to build a page based on the image. The agent reads the image, writes real HTML and CSS, and the page appears in the designer exactly as written. No proprietary format stood between the idea and the result.
